Stop the Summer Slide!

How do you prevent the “summer slide”? Read, read, read!

When kids are engaged in reading during the summer, they are better prepared for the new school year. Luckily, there are many great opportunities to keep them motivated.

1) Here at Langsford, we have 2 options for great reading practice:

One-to-One Reading Sessions

Instruction is systematic, multi-sensory, and explicit. Our teaching methods are research-validated and integrated with the best practices in the field of reading. Each child has a customized plan of action that is designed to close the academic gap in the shortest amount of time possible.

Reading Fluency Workshop
Building confidence in reading through an interactive, fun workshop! Current held online.

2) There are also many summer reading programs in the community that offer rewards for reading. Here are a few of our favorites:

Louisville Free Public Library
Register online, read 10 books between June 1st and August 8th, and then stop by your local library to receive a prize package including a backpack, passes to museums and local attractions, coupons for sweet treats, and more. You’ll also be entered to win one of several grand prizes.

Scholastic Summer Read-A-Palooza
With this free program, kids can create their own avatar, interact with their favorite Scholastic characters, play games, and read books. They can start and keep track of their reading streaks, earn special rewards, and unlock book donations.

We help kids become more confident readers!
